Yes, I believe by hiring a Maui wedding consultant that is actively involved in the Maui wedding industry can save you a lot of money, time and stress.  These consultants are experienced with planning weddings long distance with brides and are literally an extension of you.  They also have access and connections to all the local preferred vendors along with any pertinent information to share and guide you to help create a seamless day for your destination wedding.

 

 

Most importantly, make sure you feel comfortable with them and that they will listen to your needs and vision.  You want to make sure they are professional and have good follow through.  A good planner will always keep you updated and able to put you at ease every step of the way and not make you feel stressed, frustrated or alone.  Don’t be tempted to hire the least expensive consultant because with quality comes a costs.  

 

Your Maui Wedding Consultant can make your marriage license appointment and arrangements for you ~or~ the first step is to either get an application from a marriage license agent or you can download the application and fill out prior to your marriage license appointment.  The marriage license application form must be completed “prior” to your wedding.  Couples must be present together at your marriage license appointment.    Current photo id is required and fee of $65.00 cash to marriage license agent.   This document is called a marriage license and is given to your minister the day of your wedding so that your minister, bride/groom and witnesses can sign it.  When the license is completely signed after the ceremony, your minister will then mail in your completed marriage license application to the State Department of Health, it will usually take approximately four to five months for the state to issue you an official “marriage certificate”. 

Note:** It is illegal for your minister to make a photo copy of the license application to give to you for any reason.

Can my pastor from home perform my ceremony in Hawaii?
Your pastor may perform your ceremony as long as your pastor is registered to marry in the State of Hawaii.  If your pastor is not registered, you have two options, 1). Have your pastor apply for a one-time application to marry in the State of Hawaii at www.hawaii.gov/doh , which they will issue your pastor a one day license or 2). you can hire a licensed officiant from the State of Hawaii to co-officiate/witness the marriage taking place, signing the marriage license application and sending it in.

 

 

What is the best time to start a sunset wedding?
The best time to start a sunset wedding is at least 1 or 1.5 hours prior to sunset.  This will allow your photographer to take photos and have enough lighting prior to sunset and a few photos just after. See below for Sunset times.

Is it necessary to have a rehearsal for our wedding?
A rehearsal really depends on how many people you have in your bridal party.  If you have a small wedding party then it is not necessary as your wedding planner will be with you every step of the way… however,  If you have a large wedding party then you might want to consider a rehearsal so that everyone knows what they are expected to do and how the day should flow.

How do I choose a photographer?
There are several different types of photography styles; Traditional, Photojournalistic, Candids, and Cutting-Edge “avant-garde” portraiture styles to consider, so knowing your style will save you a lot of time when selecting your photographer.  I would suggest taking a look at their work first, if they have a website and you like their style, interview them, see if you are comfortable with the photographer and check if they are in line with your style and expectations.

How come some reputable vendors don’t have any professional website, demos or contracts?
These reputable vendors usually have more than enough business through referrals, resorts and wedding planners that they don’t need to advertise.  Most of the time, they are so busy that they have to turn down business.

What is a lei exchange?
A lei exchange is a Hawaiian tradition and symbolizes the love between the bride and groom.   This is a nice way to incorporate the Hawaiian tradition into your own wedding.  The bride and groom during the ceremony, usually after the vows, will exchange lei’s to each other, each of you in turn placing the lei’s around the necks of each other sealing it with a kiss.  During this time the minister will speak of the significance.  This definitely adds a nice Hawaiian touch into your ceremony one that you will remember forever.

If you see any pictures that you like out of a magazine, send it to your wedding consultant, they can check with their vendors to see if it is something they can replicate for you.

I would like my hair and makeup done for my wedding, do I have to go to a salon or can I have someone come to where I will be?
There are many salons on Maui, especially in resorts, they are all wonderful, talented hair and makeup professionals who offer off site services and travel to wherever you will be. Some include a travel fee in their prices. These hair and makeup artist will also be happy to style the bridal party's hair as well as apply makeup. Sometimes they will bring an assistant to make sure there is enough time for everyone. It's always a good idea to have a desired style in mind beforehand. In fact, you may want to practice with your hairstylist at home (with your veil) or bring a sample picture  so you are prepared with a style before your wedding day

What about gratuity?
Couples always ask if gratuity is included for vendors confirmed in their wedding packages or prepaid services.  Gratuity is not required, however if you feel that someone has exceeded and met your expectations, gratuity is always appreciated.  A thank you note with the gratuity is also appreciated.
